About Us
Gateway Foursquare Church in Salem Oregon
OUR PAST:
Our history as a church began in 1976 as Life Fellowship. The sanctuary was built in 1979 when our original church, which started as a home group, outgrew its space in the foyer. Life Fellowship became South Salem Foursquare in the early 1980s. Later, the church realized its family was growing too large to fit in its cozy sanctuary. In February 2004, the church kept its property and Ministry Center on Sunnyside Road but moved its Sunday services to Crossler Middle School. The church also changed its name to Gateway to reflect what they wanted to become to the South Salem community.
Gateway has grown to more than 70 families, gone to two services, flourished in its women’s and youth ministries, hired three additional pastors and paid off its land on Sunnyside Road . Each week, volunteer Levites load and unload a truck that carries everything necessary to set up for services. These Levites have faithfully ministered in this way for nearly four years. While meeting at Crossler has been a great short-term solution, the desire has always been to build a church home.
OUR FUTURE:
As we look to the future of Gateway, we are reminded in Psalm 127:1, “Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders build in vain.” We desire for the Lord to build His house and for this building to be used for His glory and purposes. Partnering with God in love, prayer and ministry, we desire to reach more and more people in the South Salem community. To help facilitate this goal, we need an inviting and safe place for them to be discipled. What an amazing opportunity that we all have to be a part of building the Lord’s house!
